"The agriculture and agro-industry of Portugal have quality products but they are not known abroad, and this fair has the characteristic of being organized for third countries, to importers of our products that are invited from all over the world to come here and see the best we have" said the Minister of Agriculture, Jaime Silva, to the newspaper O Emigrante/Mundo Português in the lunch of the closure of the International Trade Fair for Wine, Seafood and Agriculture products (SISAB). During three days the event gathered more than 400 national companies of the agriculture sector, which presented products such as wine, dairy products, olive oils, canned products, organic products, frozen, bakery, beers, juices, fish and fruit to importers and distributors from 70 countries. Jaime Silva, who went through the fair and spoke with several producers, said that what he saw "is rewarding in the sense that it is a fair where business is made." The governor highlighted the importance of the event for the export market, since "we are promoting national products here at the same time we are bringing to Portugal importers from other countries."
The organization's numbers speak for themselves. The participation in the thirteenth edition of SISAB surpassed all expectations, exceeding the attendance of 2000 people including international buyers and exhibitors who joined in the Atlantic Pavilion (Lisbon, Portugal) to negotiate exclusively with Portuguese products of food and beverages sectors. According to Carlos Morais, responsible for SISAB, "all this is possible due to the increasing interests of the exhibiting Portuguese companies, hitting consecutive records of attendance every year." For example, Carlos Morais highlighted the presence of large importers of international food chains such as Wal-Mart and Pão de Açucar (Brazil), Jumbo (Angola), Rimi (the Baltic countries) and Stockman (Nordic countries and Russia). |
